Triple Monitor Setup with DMT: Cursor Groups & Layout

DMT’s name says dual, but it shines with three or more — cursor groups are the killer feature nobody talks about.

The underused killer feature: cursor groups

Lock the cursor to a subset of screens

Since v2.9, the Cursor module lets you define monitor groups. The cursor roams freely inside its group but can’t escape it. Real uses: confine the mouse to your two work monitors during a fullscreen presentation on the third; keep a game’s cursor group to one screen while chat lives on another.

Setting up 3+ monitors in DMT

  1. Connect all displays and arrange them in Windows Display Settings to match your desk.
  2. Open DMT → General: v2.13 lets you name each monitor (“Left”, “Center 4K”, “Portrait”) and shows which GPU drives each — essential when you have three identical-looking rectangles.
  3. In the Cursor module, define your groups and a hotkey to toggle the lock.
  4. In Swap Screen, “move to next monitor” now cycles through all three — define per-monitor hotkeys if you want direct jumps.

Pro tips

  • Three monitors + one GPU port short? A DisplayPort MST hub splits one output into several.
  • Name your monitors in v2.13 before binding hotkeys — future-you will be grateful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Dual Monitor Tools work with 3 monitors?

Yes — despite the name, DMT handles three, four, or more displays. Since v2.9 you can even define cursor groups: free movement within a group, locked out of the rest.

What are cursor groups in DMT?

A v2.9 feature: assign monitors to groups, and the cursor moves freely inside its group but can’t leave it. Example: lock the cursor to your two work monitors while a fullscreen app runs on the third.

How should I arrange 3 monitors?

The classic is landscape-portrait-landscape or three landscape in a gentle arc. Keep the primary centered; your neck will thank you.
