How to Lock Your Mouse to One Monitor with DMT

The most popular DMT module. Stop your cursor drifting onto the second screen during games, presentations, and focused work.

What the Cursor module does

Three ways to control the cursor

Lock: trap the cursor on the current monitor until you release it.
Sticky resistance: the cursor only crosses screens when you move the mouse with enough speed — slow drifts get blocked.
Free: normal Windows behavior. You can also hold a key to temporarily allow free movement.

Set it up in 3 steps

  1. Open DMT options: double-click the DMT icon in the system tray, then choose Cursor in the left tree.
  2. Pick your mode: under General, choose how the cursor behaves — most gamers start with a lock hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+L).
  3. Test it: press the hotkey, try to push the cursor off-screen, then press the hotkey again to release.

Pro tips

  • In v2.13+ use the “lock cursor to current monitor” hotkey instead of “lock to primary” when gaming on a secondary screen.
  • If the cursor still escapes in a specific game, switch that game from borderless-windowed to the hard lock hotkey.
  • Sticky resistance is best for office work: it stops accidental drift but never traps you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I lock my mouse to one monitor in DMT?

Open DMT from the system tray → Cursor → General, and assign a hotkey to “Lock cursor onto screen”. Press it once to trap the cursor on the current monitor, press again to release.

What’s the difference between cursor lock and sticky resistance?

Lock is absolute — the cursor cannot leave the screen until you release it. Sticky resistance only makes crossing harder: the cursor crosses only if you move the mouse fast enough, which stops accidental drift while keeping free movement.

Can I lock the cursor to a non-primary monitor?

Yes. Since version 2.13 there is a dedicated hotkey to lock the cursor to whichever monitor it is currently on — not just the primary one.

Will cursor lock work in fullscreen games?

In most cases yes, and it’s the main reason gamers install DMT. For borderless-windowed games, the hard “lock cursor onto screen” hotkey is more reliable than sticky resistance.
