Mouse Gets Stuck Between Monitors? Fix the Edge Geometry

Different-size monitors create invisible walls at the screen edge. Understand the geometry once, fix it forever.

Why it happens

Windows crosses only where edges overlap

In Display Settings, Windows draws your monitors as rectangles. The cursor can only cross between them along the shared edge — where the rectangles touch. A 27″ next to a 24″ leaves dead corners where the cursor refuses to cross. It’s geometry, not a bug.

Fix it in 2 minutes

  1. Open Settings → System → Display and drag the monitor rectangles to match your physical desk layout — including height offsets.
  2. Maximize the shared edge: align the rectangles so the touching edge is as long as possible.
  3. Open DMT → General and confirm the same arrangement (v2.13 shows resolutions and GPU per monitor).
  4. Optional: add DMT sticky resistance so even the remaining edge needs a deliberate push.

Pro tips

  • Portrait + landscape combos suffer most — take an extra minute aligning those rectangles.
  • If the cursor still “jumps” vertically when crossing, the rectangles are offset: nudge them until the jump disappears.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my mouse get stuck at the corner between monitors?

Windows only lets the cursor cross where the two displays’ edges actually overlap in the layout map. If one monitor is smaller or offset, corners become dead zones — by design, not a bug.

How do I fix the cursor jumping between different-size monitors?

Align the monitors in Windows Display Settings to match their physical positions as closely as possible, then mirror that layout in DMT’s General page. The shared edge — where crossing is allowed — follows this map.

Can DMT stop the cursor catching on monitor corners?

DMT’s sticky resistance and hard cursor lock give you control at the edge, but the underlying crossing geometry comes from Windows’ display arrangement — fix the map first.
