Download & Installation FAQ
Quick answers to common questions about downloading and setting up DMT on modern Windows systems.
Why does Windows SmartScreen warn me about DMT?
As an open-source project, DMT is not digitally signed with a costly EV certificate. When you first run the installer, Windows may show a “Program is not commonly downloaded” warning. Since DMT is community-vetted and 100% transparent on GitHub, you can safely click “More Info” and “Run Anyway”.
Should I choose the MSI or the Portable version?
Choose the MSI Installer if you want DMT to start automatically with Windows and have a standard entry in your Apps list. Choose the Portable version if you want to run it from a cloud drive (like OneDrive/Dropbox) or a USB stick without modifying system files.
How do I uninstall Dual Monitor Tools completely?
If you used the MSI installer, simply go to Settings > Apps > Uninstall. If you used the portable version, just close the application from the system tray and delete the folder. DMT does not leave bloated registry entries or hidden background services.
Can I use DMT on a work laptop without admin rights?
Yes! The portable version can be executed by standard users. However, note that DMT may not be able to “interact” with windows that are running with higher (Admin) privileges, such as the Task Manager or certain enterprise software.
